“As the title suggests, this book covers my struggles and experiences as a parent of six children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). My first blog/website was called The Plight of the SEND parent, and my first Twitter handle was @SEND_Plight, so it felt like a natural and obvious title.

“I am an Autistic ADHD adult and parent of six SEND children and young people, and so the ordeal of getting the right help and support on repeat over more than two decades has given me a truly unique perspective. These experiences have given me invaluable knowledge and insight of the system and I am confident that the chapters of The Plight of the SEND Parent cover many of the struggles that are replicated for families all over the United Kingdom. It will be of use not only for those in my own situation but also for professionals, policymakers and journalists alike.

“This is the first of two volumes. The second book, Illegal Aid – Rough Autistic British Civil Justice (out in Spring 2025), focuses on my experience with civil justice in connection with my children and the barriers we have faced in accessing justice relevant to services, education and support over many years. This includes Tribunals, County Courts, the High Court and even the Court of Appeal.”
